Miharo Learning (Literacy and Numeracy)
I am learning to use the computer in the library to learn Maths and writing and other things. I can use them on the ipad too. I like to go on the computer in the library before school, if I come early. I like playing alphabet Bingo. I am learning my alphabet now. I am getting good at writing stories. I wrote a page and read it to Matua Crouch. I am going to write longer ones soon. Mrs Donaldson reads us good stories. (Etama) I provide opportunities for Etama to use reading, writing and maths applications both on the computer and the ipad. He likes going on the library computer before school. Etama is growing more confident and developing his skills in this area. He enjoys playing alphabet bingo and is getting quicker at findingthe letters when we play. Mrs Donaldson, the librarian comes in just before lunch Mon to Thurs to read 2 stories to the children. Etama enjoys these and always listens well. He is progressing well in story-writing but needs to be encouraged as he can lack confidence. I want to extend Etama's writing vocabulary and encourage him to use or attempt more and different words in his stories. (Mrs Bennett)
Skipping (Jump Rope For Heart)
I didn't know how to skip. I can do over 12 skips now. I want to learn to run and skip and do backwards skips. (Etama) The school is involved in a Jump Rope for Heart programme. Most of Room 2 could not skip. All but one can skip forwards now. The tamariki are now learning to jump backwards and do skill jumping such as ski jump and bell jump. Most children can run around the court skipping. One boy who could not skip has gone from no skips to 30 on the spot in just 2 weeks. The programme is for 6 weeks. On June 13th 2014 we will have a Jump Rope for Heart skipping activity afternoon for the children and whanau. Children are setting goals to achieve that afternoon. The emphasis is on participation and fun. ( Mrs Bennett)
April
Goals
I am learning to read harder books. I am going to write longer stories. I am learning to ride a skateboard. ( Etama) I support Etama by helping him develop his reading skills. He is in a small reading group of 4 so has a lot of individual attention. He has moved up 2 reading levels this term so far. He has lots of opportunities to use a skateboard in the playground and is getting better all the time. I have a class one so the children can practise on it. Etama has improved in his story-writing structure and spelling. He needs to develop more self confidence in this area. Next Term we will extend the number of sentences that he can write and progress to harder levels in Reading. (Mrs Bennett).
Walking Safely
Constable Phil is teaching us to walk safely. We are learning to cross the road safely. We know where to stand and know parts of the road such as the kerb and the gutter.
Duffy Role Model Assembly
We had Diana Queenin as our Duffy Role Model. She talked about Dinosaurs and showed us fossils. She also told us how important it is to read to helpour learning. The children loved the Duffy books that they chose.
ipads
I built a school with Te Iwi on the ipad. It shows where we learn things. I had to match the shapes and the patterns. (Etama) As part of our Geometry unit in Maths the children had to build either a school or a house in pairs. They had to use attributes such as shapes, pattern, direction, size and colour. The children worked well together and enjoyed the activity. ( Mrs Bennett)
Prizegiving
Etama got an award at the end of Term One Assembly. Mrs Donaldson gave it to him for working well learning his words and alphabet with her. ( Mrs Bennett)
March
ipad Stories
I am making up my story on my ipad. I can make lots of people. I can record me talking. I can write words on my story.( Etama) I showed the children how to use the Tellagami app on the ipad. The children can make a variety of characters and change them accordingly. They can write words or record their voice. I circulate and assist if needed to support or help. Many of the children are quite independent in this app now. They tend to prefer to record rather than write words and love making lots of different characters. (Mrs Bennett)
Storywriting/ Masks
Etama I am looking around. My mask is scary. Etama selected the mask on the ipad that he wanted to have a photo with. He wrote about it and we published his caption and put the pictures on the classroom wall. The objective was to stimulate the children's imaginations. I encouraged him to think about what sort of mask he wanted. He wanted this as he thought that it was a scary monster mask. (Mrs Bennett)
Storywriting
I wrote a story about my mask. I spelt lots of the words myself. My mask is scary. Mrs Bennett helped me spell.(Etama) I encouraged Etama to spell the basic words in his story like is, a, it and can.He is slowly building up a basic word knowledge to use in his story- writing. He got people, bite and eat from me and mask and monster from the wall where his picture and caption was. When the children have written their stories they read them to me and I highlight in "gold for great" words that they have attempted well or spelt or located for themselves. (Mrs Bennett)
Hakinakina Swimming Sports
We went to the Hakinakinka swimming sports with the other schools. I won the flutter- board race for the boys (Etama) We all had a great afternoon at the Hakinakina Cluster swimming sports. We were there with TKK, Mangateretere and Omahu. We had fun races like blowing the little ball across the pool with a straw. We also had flutter-board and swimming races. The children loved the free swim in the bigger pool. They were all awesome and all enjoyed themselves. ( Mrs Bennett)
Life Education
I liked Harold the puppet and Whaea Anne. We learnt about healthy food too. I put the sleep picture up. We should always get lots of sleep. (Etama) The children all enjoyed the Life Education Trust visit with Whaea Anne. We studied VIP ( Very Important Person), which we talk about in class as we have a VIP each week. We also learnt about healthy food and the important things that we must do to keep our bodies healthy. Two weeks later the children are still able to name and discuss what we talked about. ( Mrs Bennett).
School Swimming Sports
I liked the school swimming sports. We splashed and had races. I am good at getting across the pool fast and doing starfish. (Etama) I took daily swimming lessons with the children and taught them water confidence. All children could get in and put their head under. Some could sit on the bottom. Most can now kick with a flutter-board. All can blow bubbles and kick at the side of the pool. It has been rewarding to see how much the class has increased in water confidnce and skills. I have assessed the children according to the Swim Safe evaluation sheet. ( Mrs Bennett)
February
Swimming
I can put my head under the water, but I don't like swimming much. I can kick with a flutterboard a little bit. We made up 5 class rules. I am showing the 1st one. "We listen carefully." That's so we get it right. I also did the last one, "We use nice words." We don't say mean things to others.x(Etama) We made up class rules. Etama helped model two of our rules. He could repeat them and explain what they mean. ( Mrs Bennett)

I can go on the ramps at Sk8zone. I can go fast ( Etama). I supported Etama writing a story. He can record one simple sentence and isolated words from around the room. Next steps are to help Etama write sentences with the words he chooses as well as help him write his own words to talk about his experiences. Orally he could not say anything that was in his story or read it back. He needs to be able to match the words he has written 1 to 1.( Mrs Bennett)

I am going to write longer ones soon.
Mrs Donaldson reads us good stories. (Etama)
I provide opportunities for Etama to use reading, writing
and maths applications both on the computer and the ipad.
He likes going on the library computer before school.
Etama is growing more confident and developing his skills in this area.
He enjoys playing alphabet bingo and is getting quicker at finding the letters when we play.
Mrs Donaldson, the librarian comes in just before lunch Mon to Thurs to read 2 stories to the children.
Etama enjoys these and always listens well.
He is progressing well in story-writing but needs to be encouraged as he can lack confidence.
I want to extend Etama's writing vocabulary and encourage him to use
or attempt more and different words in his stories.
(Mrs Bennett)
Skipping (Jump Rope For Heart)
I didn't know how to skip. I can do over 12 skips now.
I want to learn to run and skip and do backwards skips. (Etama)

The tamariki are now learning to jump backwards and do skill jumping
such as ski jump and bell jump.
Most children can run around the court skipping.
One boy who could not skip has gone from no skips to 30 on the spot
in just 2 weeks. The programme is for 6 weeks.
On June 13th 2014 we will have a Jump Rope for Heart skipping activity afternoon
for the children and whanau.
Children are setting goals to achieve that afternoon.

My mask is scary.
Etama selected the mask on the ipad that he wanted to have a photo with.

I encouraged him to think about what sort of mask he wanted.
He wanted this as he thought that it was a scary monster mask.
(Mrs Bennett)
Storywriting

I spelt lots of the words myself. My mask is scary.
Mrs Bennett helped me spell.(Etama)
I encouraged Etama to spell the basic words in his story
like is, a, it and can.He is slowly building up a basic word
knowledge to use in his story- writing.
He got people, bite and eat from me and mask and monster from the wall
where his picture and caption was.
When the children have written their stories they read them to me and I highlight in "gold for great"
